Comment by h00ded0ne on July 19, 2012 at 22:18 Gears of War 3 was my first Gears experience and I have to agree with John that I have no problem with the sawed-off shotgun or the retro lancer. It seems to me that the people that hate it and have the most amount of problems with it are long time Gears fans who have prejudices based on their past Gears experiences. To me, it is important to have varoius weapons to choose from so that you can match it to your game style and game type. I personally prefer the retro lancer when playing any online versus and choose to use the sawed-off when playing KOTG and sometimes TDM. But using the sawed-off is suicide when playing Guardian/CTL, Warzone or Execution. The addition of the sawed-off was supposed to give players another viable choice for short range warfare, but the gnasher was made too versatile. I love GOW3 but I think that most of the time, regardless of whatever game type you are playing, it always turns into a gnasher-fest despite the plethora of other weapons to use. They gave the gnasher too much range and by doing so made it the ideal weapon in 75-80% of all combat situations and there's no way the sawed-off can compete with that.
Comment by Michael Hall on July 6, 2012 at 14:21 well i think that the sawed off yes is bad at times but still its a one shot you miss and well your enemy can own you lol now the retro has too be in judgement cause remember it was before the updated lancer with a chainsaw so its only right they have it in there to keep it with the story line they've created but the sawed-off come on its actually not that bad ive killed quiet a bit of ppl with a gnasher against those with sawed-offs.

Comment by John Bradley on June 21, 2012 at 0:19 I personally have no problem with the sawed off. Many people refer to it as a "noob" weapon because the strategy to it is very simple. Get close and fire. The reality is though, that it is nearly impossible to have a good KD while using the sawed off. In 1v1 skirmishes it is a good weapon to use. But because of the long reload time and the ammo count, its very likely that as soon as you kill someone, one of their teammates will come in and finish you off while you're defenseless. It makes it very hard to get multiple kills in one life because in order to survive you always have to high-tail it out of the firefight to reload. Also, if you know someone has a sawed off, you can easily avoid getting killed by backing out of its range and finishing them off with retro lancer or gnasher. Smart players learn how to avoid the sawed off. I can see why people hate on it, because it takes skill to use the gnasher while there is almost none involved for the sawed off; but instead of complaining I think it is better to adapt to that weapon and learn how to avoid it.
