Method 1 – Campaign Act 2 Chapter 2

Requirements: 2 Xbox controllers.

Set Up: you want 2 player Arcade campaign with the difficulty set to either Hardcore or Insane, you also want Mutators on, I do it with super reload (Easy -10% XP), enemy regeneration (Hard +10% XP) and must active reload (Hard =10% XP). With this set up, a high difficulty and 2 hard Mutators It gives you a good shot of really boosting your score in the first run.

This is the method I do, I understand the payoff is much less and it takes a little longer but you have a large space for error and you don’t have to worry about missing the restart but some of my friends are all about method 2 so I’ve put them both here for you to try and see what works best for you.

Start the chapter grab the ammo right at the start and throughout the run you want to keep Dom (Your 2nd controller) out of the way and in cover as much as possible until you need him at the end. If he goes down or keeps getting hit it will take you multiplier down and give you a lower overall score.

I know it might be tough for some but if you can you want a perfect run through the chapter to get the most points (The better you do in this run the more points you get, the more points you get the faster you will level up, etc.) I’ve managed to do this (A perfect run on insane) a few times and it really does make the difference. Get hit as little as possible, DON’T go down or die if possible as this resets your multiplier to 1 and you want it as high as you can for as long as you can.

Play your way through to the end of this chapter where you can use the beast catapult it’s at this point when there are only a few bad guys left you want to pick your moment and with Marcus sprint to the very back of the level and stand him by the door you go through to finish the chapter. Now switch to Dom and use him to kill the last few locusts, when the last one dies you hit a check point and the door Marcus is stood by opens up. Going back to you 1st controller run Marcus round the corner and up the small incline and that’s where the chapter finishes, you get to see your score, ribbons and other stuff after this has been awarded to you a cut scene starts to play at this point you want to press start and reload last check point. This will take you back around 30 seconds to when the door you stood Marcus next to opens up and all you do from this point is keep finishing the chapter and reloading it again when you get to the cut scene.

On my best perfect run I got 45 kills that got me a score of 50,531 Arcade points and after the difficulty and Mutator multiplier was added I had a total arcade score of 120,011, so I was getting just over of 240.000 arcade points every minute or so give or take. This got me the King of Cog Onyx Medal several times quite fast and that’s worth 20.000 XP so it really helps you stacking onyx medals like that on your way to rank 100.

Onyx Medals that stack with this Boost

King of Cog – Earn 7.5 Million points in Arcade Mode (Gets You: 20.000 XP)

Number 1 – Be number 1 in Arcade Mode 240 times (Gets You: 12.000 XP)

Aficionado – Play 500 Chapters of Arcade Mode (Gets You: 25.000 XP)

Survivalist – Complete 240 Chapters of Arcade Mode without dying (Like I mentioned earlier you only get this if you can do a run without dying, tough but worth it if you can) - (Gets You: 12.000 XP)

Method 2 – Campaign Act 3 Chapter 1

Set Up: you want to play Arcade campaign with the difficulty set to either Hardcore or Insane, you also want Mutators on, I did it, again, with super reload (Easy -10% XP), enemy regeneration (Hard +10% XP) and must active reload (Hard =10% XP). With this set up, a high difficulty and 2 hard Mutators It gives you a good shot of really boosting up your score.

This method of boosting has a much bigger pay off to it if you put the time in and can nail the restarts, massive in fact but it’s a proper grind boost and at the end when it’s time to press start and restart the chapter the room for error is, and I kid you not … ZERO … you have around a second or two to nail it and if you miss it the next chapter starts and you have to start all over.

You start the chapter in the garage of Anvil Gate with plenty of guns and ammo about, What you want to do first is to run up the left side grab one of the long shots (Sniper Riffle) from the rack of them on the wall (you can come back here for ammo when you run out) and step out on to the first walk way. Fire off a shot and get your perfect super reload (you get two bullets in the clip for this, the first is a super bullet the next is just a regular one so once you’ve shot off your super bullet quickly fire out the regular one, reload for another super bullet because you’re going to need them) Look up in the sky and soon you will notice 2 reavers fly over you, pop them with you super sniper and they go down with one hit. This is where the grind comes in; you now have to stand there for as long as you can be bothered and rack up a massive Arcade score killing this infinite wave of reavers. Your multiplier goes up quite fast to 10 so soon each kill should bag you around 7500 to 8500 Arcade points each kill, and ideally you want 2 or 3 million Points or more.

When you have this you can finally go out into the chapter and play it out to towards the end when the bad guys bust through the last gate you hit a check point and then you have to shoot the big gas tank and blow them all to nothing, this is where you have to be on your toes and get ready. The chapter ends, your score and everything comes up and at the very moment the screen begins to fade out you need to hit start and restart chapter, I suggest having a test run at doing this to get a feel for the timing before you spend hours grinding to miss it first go and only be awarded one round of the XP you’ve just racked up. It will take you back maybe 2 minutes or so, shoot the tank again, end the chapter again and restart again. This way, let’s say you got 2 million from the reavers at the start you get around 500.000 or more going through the chapter so now every few minutes when you finish the chapter you’re getting 2 to 3 million Arcade Points … That’s like an onyx King of Cog medal every 5 or 6 minutes (All rough time)… Big points and you rank up so fast.

Tip: Whatever method you do, do it offline as with method 2 i believe they have put a patch of some sort so you can only restart the chapter twice or maybe three times, I’m not 100% sure of this as I do all my boosting offline if I can, it’s something I’ve heard just a heads up …

Tip: With method 1 if you line Marcus up right you can even do the boost without even looking at the TV, I put the audio of my Xbox through my Amp and put some headphones on one ear so I could hear the game audio and then sat and watched a film with the wife and every time I heard Marcus say “Grab what you need and keep moving.” I held the A button and he ran straight forward and along the wall and past the finish you then hear the points totting up and the cut scene start, press start, press down and listen for just one boop noise that’s your restart, sorted… who says we can’t multi task.

Happy Boosting
